Active Spring Piston
Spring Into Smoother
Every seal, bushing, and interface has been optimized to minimize friction. The Mezzer’s 37mm stanchion diameter reduces seal contact area by about 5% compared to 38mm designs, yielding smoother action without sacrificing stiffness. The new Mezzers use the acclaimed Dorado Air system. However, the air piston now rides atop a spring. This new Manitou technology , called Active Spring Piston, uses a coil spring to eliminate seal lag and reduce required breakaway force in the first millimeters of travel to the point of near elimination. The combination of these two factors allow for unbelievably smooth small-bump compliance and seamless change in direction from compression to rebound while maintaining chassis stability through the entire stroke.

Mezzer Gen 2 addresses this through Manitou’s Micromanager Bushing Alignment (MBA) system, combining precision-machined castings, proprietary bushing sizing processes, enhanced quality control, and a new red-ring dropout insert developed specifically to maintain optimal alignment under axle load.
As axle torque compresses the hub and dropout interface, even hundredths of a millimeter of movement can create dynamic friction. New for Gen 2, Pro, Expert, and LT Pro models use a fine-tuned red-ring insert inside the dropout that counteracts compressive and torsional loading during axle tightening. Each insert is individually selected during assembly using alignment testing that replicates a perfectly torqued 110mm hub setup.
The result is improved bushing alignment throughout the entire stroke, reduced dynamic friction, increased durability, smoother suspension movement, and exceptional ride quality straight out of the box.
